SOME HONEST THOUGHTS… I have never seen myself as a certain type of photographer. I don’t just do one dedicated type of sessions; I don’t follow trends, I don’t stay within a niche. Maybe that’s not the most successful business strategy but photography is more than business for me. It’s an artistic outlet that has shaped my perceptions and fuels creativity. I work with different wonderful people - business owners, entrepreneurs, families, children. Lately, my work has brought me a lot of event photography gigs, mainly birthdays and celebrations. And while I always deliver portrait shots of the birthday star and their families, my galleries always include images like these. Storytelling vibes which speak “party time” without the obvious visuals. Dark vibes, no flash, rich colours and contrast, cheeky details. I am equally excited with images like that as well as well-lit documentary or classic black and whites. Like I said, no niche, no trend, no specific style. I feel comfortable experimenting and expressing with it all. I don’t have a lot of family sessions lately but when I do, my heart is full of joy. Extended family sessions don’t feel like a stiff experience - children are encouraged to run around, laugh, jump, make silly faces and play. Just be children! And adults are directed into a movement or pose in the midst of all the fun. And sometimes I shoot before you even know it - that’s the best way to capture those real laughs and connections. With the beautiful autumn atmosphere outside and Christmas approaching, now might be the best time to update your family gallery and enjoy some outdoor time together while we create some fun photo storytelling. This is Maria. Let me tell you about her. She is a psychologist with many years of experience in the NHS and working with young children. Now she’s starting her own business as an infant sleep coach. She wasn’t sure if she needed a brand photographer or a baby photographer to help her with brand images for her website and marketing. We had a lovely long chat about the message she wanted to send across to her potential clients - mums who needed reassurance and support with their babies sleeping routines. We checked a lot of competitors’ websites and most of them only showed the occasional stock image of a cute sleeping baby but no visuals of who actually builds the business and helps new parents. Who is this person? Who would they trust in their most vulnerable time? Who would be caring enough, gentle enough but also supportive, strong and friendly… That’s Maria - she is the face, soul and mind behind her business. She is attentive, loving and experienced. She is also resilient and brave to run her own business. She is also a mum. She is also a wife. And a dog mum, and a nature lover. One of her favourite things is to dip her toes in water, basking in the afternoon sunlight and enjoy time by herself. She is all that and now her new website can reflect her wonderful personality. I don’t usually share photos of my children in this account, or any of my personal photographs. I post them in my personal Instagram. However, I am not awfully busy this month and I am enjoying the summer holidays with these two cheeky faces (and by that, I mean going absolutely mental 😂🙈); and looking at these, I am reminded of how I started my photography journey. It wasn’t always about brands and events. It was about deeply inspiring storytelling and connections. No fluff, no posing, no dressing up. Just documenting life and love and emotions. It’s a shame I didn’t have more family customers to photograph; but hey, no regrets here. Summer parties are the highlight of the season! And I love being a part of them, documenting the fun, the laughter, the chats. I love seeing people through the lens - when they are unaware of the camera, their most candid smiles shine and the joy is real. And we end up with a gallery full of great photos. Long post alert! But please stay with me. I am genuinely interested how you feel about this. Have you ever been told as a child not to show off, be loud or draw attention to yourself? Well, I have and I imagine a lot of women like me - mums, business owners, millennials - have heard something along those lines. And we grew up believing “attention-seeking” is to be avoided. And then we grew up in a world where seeking attention quite literally means being seen! As a business owner, visibility isn’t showing off—it’s part of the job. But here’s the truth… Your dream clients can’t work with you if they don’t know you exist. You need to seek their attention. Showing up isn’t about ego or vanity. It’s about connection. And you can’t build a connection by hiding behind your logo. The people who are looking for you want to see the face behind the brand, feel your energy, and trust the person they’re choosing to work with. I am often guilty of this myself. I feel comfortable directing women in front of the lens and documenting their stories but I cringe when I need to step up and show my face. It’s deeply personal yet so many of us feel the same. And this is usually the main reason why many talented women in business avoid booking a brand photoshoot. Because of the little voice in our heads still whispering that attention seeking is not attractive. And I want to shut this up for you! As your brand photographer, my job is to help you see a different version of yourself. Not a polished photoshopped image but the passionate, dedicated and hardworking person behind the business you are creating. You don’t see this in yourself but I do. Time flies. One day, you are dreaming of meeting your baby and expecting that gentle shift in your universe, which will make you happier, richer, and your soul - complete. And what seems like the next day, she is here. In your arms. Your heart has found a new home. The window is the same, the bed is the same, the room is the same. But your life has expanded to fit all the stars, all the love and all the joy. You are the same but not really. You've become more. And it's the quiet moments in between that matter the most. Only photographs can save that time, stop the flow, preserve that feeling. It's not about perfection or polished looks. It's all about authenticity. Babies are wonderful to photograph; but my greatest joy as a photographer is to capture the mother. The raw magic that tranforms a woman into a new version of herself. My deepest regret is not having photographs of myself while pregnant with my kids. I have the occasional selfies but not the storytelling of my journey.
